Hello! Continuing the introductions for the 2017 A Blog Named Hero team today… I’m Emily Midgett! I’m so very excited to be here with such talented company! A bit about me: I’m a stay-at-home-momma/referee to our 3 year old twins, wife to my redhead, and laundress-in-chief, but in a past life I was a professional voice teacher with a Masters of Music. These days, my singing is relegated to the car or singing along with Wild Kratts. I’ve been “crafty” for as long as I can remember. I have always made jewelry, dabbled in watercolor, cake decorating, etc, etc, etc, and our wedding was definitely a DIY wedding (right before Pinterest exploded, so I had to just be creative based on wedding magazine articles! The horror!) … Our wedding is where my papercrafting obsession began. I wanted to make my own thank you notes, since obviously nothing from the store was sufficient. I started with some rubber stamps, a Cricut, and some patterned paper from Hobby Lobby, and my interest/obsession has only grown over the last seven years. I’ve been lucky to be on design teams for The Ton, Where Creativity Meets C9, and Butterfly Reflections, Ink, and I’m so thrilled to be joining the super-talented team at A Blog Named Hero!
Here is my “hello” project to introduce myself to you all! I love all things floral, all things sparkly, and playing with color! I also am rather obsessed with coloring in general, whether it be watercolors, colored pencils, Zig markers… so it’s pretty odd that this project has no coloring on it. Next time! 🙂
I started with a panel of navy blue card stock and heat embossed the Hero Arts/Lia Griffith Woodgrain Background using silver glitter embossing powder. From there, I turned to the flowers. I stamped the pretty blooms from Hero Arts’s Color Layering For You set using a variety of peaches, pinks, and reds, then die cut them with the coordinating dies. The leaves were created by simply die cutting the leaves from the die set using silver glitter paper… no stamping!
Next, I die cut the “hello” from Hero Arts’s Stamp N Cut “Hello” set three times: once from the same silver glitter paper, twice from scrap card stock. I adhered all of the die cuts together, then stamped the “sending you hugs” onto a strip of white card stock that I had notched with a flag tail at the end. I cut a strip of coral card stock and two thin strips of silver pearl card stock, adhered them so that the silver strips were peeking out on top and bottom of the coral card stock, then popped them up on the navy woodgrain panel. I arranged my floral bouquet, then picked it up using Glad Press’n’Seal and added my adhesive to the back. After adhering it to my card base, I added the greeting, making certain that the white sentiment strip was peeking out from behind the bouquet.
The final touch was to add some pretty sequins from a sequins mix by Lucy Abrams in order to even out the bouquet and add another dimension of texture and sparkle!
Well, that’s all for my first post! I hope you have enjoyed this project, and I so look forward to working with all of the talented ladies on this team! Have an incredible day and a wonderful holiday weekend!
And don’t forget, to celebrate our new home, we have a $20 gift certificate to Hero Arts for one lucky commenter! Have you seen their new Valentine’s release? Definitely something you’ll want to check out. We will draw a random winner from comments on all design team introduction posts (which began here), so the more you comment, the more chances to win!
